Ghent Scholarships in Belgium for Developing Countries

Brief description: 
Ghent University offers postgraduate Masters scholarships to international students from selected developing countries who wish to study in Belgium and obtain a master’s degree at Ghent University.

can only apply for an ICP-scholarship (International Course Programme) and not for a Master grant.  Residents from Angola, Myanmas, Niger, Pakistan, Algeria, China and NamibiĆ« can apply for a Master grant.
Number of Scholarships:
Each year, a maximum of 10 scholarships can be awarded.

Target group:
The scholarships are for international students from developing countries listed on the Master Grants country list (PDF).


Scholarship value/inclusions:

The scholarship is in principle paid for the total duration of the studies.  The scholarship consists of an allowance of €1000 per month and the yearly tuition fee with a maximum of 80€. Once you get an intstallation fee of 500€. In case of increased tuition fee for the master’s programme, Ghent University will only reimburse the refundable part. Airline ticket and visa costs are carried by the student.

Applicants for master’s programmes should already have obtained a bachelor degree when they submit the application.
Nationality
The applicants must come from and should be nationals of one of the developing countries on the Master Grants country list (PDF). Priority, however, will be given to the categories on the country list with the lowest levels of development and income. Priority will also be given to students applying for an ICP-programme whose country is not on the VLIR-country list but on the UGent list.
Language and proficiency
The application is to be made in English. The applicant should have a very good command of the English language. Click here to see the requirements.


Scholarship Application instructions:

Important: You must demonstrate that the university of your studies, your current or future employer has a relation with Ghent University (former or current). For example: staff exchange, research projects, publications, etc.  Your application will not be eligible if you cannot establish any connection with Ghent University.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS)

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding  Non-EU/EEA students pursuing a master’s degree programme at Leiden University.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships

Target group:
The scholarship programme is intended for international candidates  from Non-EU/EEA students showing the highest achievements and promise for a master’s degree study.



Scholarship value/inclusions:

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards:
•  Platinum Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs
•  Gold Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee*
•  Silver Covers 75% of the tuition fee
•  Bronze Covers 50% of the tuition fee
•  Ivory Covers 25 % of the tuition fee
The maximum study period is 12 months (1-year programme) or 24 months (2-year programme).
Important Note: Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.  Leiden University advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of approx. €10,000 to €14,000 per year to cover the costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation.


Eligibility:
•  Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree programme
•  In his or her prior academic education abroad, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results which are relevant for the programme for which the student wishes to enrol. As an indication, the student will be among the top 10% for the relevant programme followed abroad
•  The applicant will hold a non-EU/EEA passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (“Studiefinanciering”; for more information please refer to: www.ib-groep.nl
•  Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a Leiden University master’s degree
•  Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and conditions (pdf) attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.



Application instructions:

When applying for admissions, indicate clearly that you would like to apply for the LExS scholarship on the scholarship section of the online application form.  You should attach a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship.
For programmes starting in September 2013, the deadline was 1 February 2013. For programmes starting in February 2014, the deadline was 1 October 2013.

Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS)

The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.

Each year the University offers about 220 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 100 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.

Target group:
International students who wish to study at University of Melbourne.


Scholarship value/inclusions:

Benefits provided by the MIRS include:
• Living allowance of $24,653 per annum (2013 rate)
• Relocation Grant of $2,000 awarded to students who are moving from interstate in order to study at the University of Melbourne or $3,000 awarded to those who are moving from overseas
• Thesis Allowance of up to $420 (2013 rate) for masters by research and up to $840 (2013 rate) for PhD and other doctorate by research candidates,
•  and paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.

Eligibility:
To be considered for a MIRS, applicants need to have an unconditional offer of a place in a graduate research degree course (eg. masters by research, PhD or other research doctorate) at the University of Melbourne. Please click on the following link for further information concerning the eligibility criteria.
Both commencing and currently enrolled international research higher degree students may apply.


Application instructions:

Please do not apply for a MIRS if you have not yet been admitted to a research program at the University. Before you apply for admissions, you must read the instructions at this page.  MIRS applicants should submit complete both their applications for admission and scholarship by 31 August of each year.
